63 more Myanmar BGP members’ flee to Bangladesh

More 63 members of Myanmar’s Border Guard Police (BGP) have entered Bangladesh territory today and sought shelter amid the ongoing conflict between the ethnic Arakan Army and Myanmar troops along the international border.

According to BGB, till yesterday out of 183 BGP members, 76 of Tumbru BOP, 37 of Ghumdhum, and 70 of Balukhali entered Bangladesh territory. Shariful Islam, public relations officer (PRO) of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) confirmed the matter today (February 6). He said with this, a total of 327 BGP members entered Bangladesh. A total of 227 BGP members are under the Cox's Bazar BGB Battalion. On the other hand, there are two more BGP members in Hoikang BOP in Teknaf, he said. The BGP members with arms and ammunition have been disarmed by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel and taken to a safe place, he added. Meanwhile, the government has kept the BGB members on a high alert to prevent any infiltration through the Myanmar border during the conflict. BGB Cox's Bazar Region Commander Brig Gen Morshed Alam said additional BGB members have been deployed in the border areas to closely monitor the situation. On Monday, Law Minister Anisul Huq told the parliament that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has instructed the armed forces and the BGB to exercise patience regarding the war-like situation in Myanmar.
